What is more beautiful and joyous than the arrival of a brand new life among us? We do not need to be religious to feel the miracle of the uniqueness of this whole new person. Billions of us over time, none of us exactly the same as another- truly amazing!.
This new person, and their surrounding relationships, should be celebrated, and celebrated in a happy, inclusive, all ages way. Namings can be more light hearted, somewhat less organised, a bit noisy, with distracted little ones moving round and about, but in all this, they are uplifting.....we‘re reminded of new beginnings, optimism, hope.
Namings can include many different sorts of elements. The lighting of candles, the use of water as a blessing, the appointment of mentors or godparents, different kinds of spiritual and cultural elements, the inclusion of family and relatives, music, wishing trees, certificates and much more. The choices are up to you. However, the littlies among us make it pretty clear if we’ve gotten too long-winded!
Namings are a real love and passion of mine. Every life matters, and I really feel we should mark a child’s arrival into our families and communities. Here we also prepare the space for those involved to commit their support for this person over time.
When we celebrate a new life we celebrate the gift and joy of all life everywhere....
